Income and residential status determine eligibility
The City of Wichita is again offering free paint for people who meet income guidelines and whose property is in targeted areas. Qualified property owners are eligible for up to $200 in paint; seniors and people with certain disabilities may also qualify for a grant to defray costs for painting.
The target area is bounded by I-235, Pawnee, 25th Street North and Hillside. It also includes Local Investment Areas such as Hilltop and Planeview neighborhoods. The income limit for a single person household is $35,700; the 4-person household limit is $50,950.
“This program makes such a big difference in the appearance of home as well as the entire block”, Mary K. Vaughn, Director of the Housing and Community Services Department, said. “We want help from neighborhood associations to spread the word to members and consider organizing paint parties.”
To learn more about the program or eligibility, please contact the Neighborhood Improvement Services Division at 462-3713. Those who are eligible select their paint color.
The 2010 program runs through September 15, 2011. It is funded with Community Development Block Grant funds from the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development.
