No Left Turns at Rock Road and Harry

Contact: Gail Williams, Department of Public Works & Utilities |

Project to build dual left-turn lanes requires traffic restrictions

Construction of dual-left turn lanes at the Harry and Rock Road intersection will require additional traffic restrictions at that intersection beginning on Monday.

Left turns from Rock Road onto Harry will be prohibited (left turns from Harry onto Rock Road were prohibited in March). Also, traffic on Rock Road will be limited to one lane in each direction from Osie to Grail, approximately one-eighth of a mile north and south of Harry).

Access to area businesses will be maintained during construction.

In addition to the dual left turn lanes, the project will provide drainage improvements, a new 42-inch water line, and new sidewalks.

The restrictions will be in effect for the duration of the project which is expected to be completed in November 2011. Construction began in February.

“More than 45,000 vehicles go through this intersection every day,” says Jim Armour, City Engineer. “We ask motorists to be courteous and for their patience while these improvements are made to this busy intersection.”

Wichita Police Department staff will be monitoring the intersection to assure that drivers do not make improper turns, such as cutting through parking lots.
