A fire caused extensive damage to a northeast Wichita home at 4:57 p.m. Wednesday at 2611 N. Lorraine, one occupant was hurt trying to fight the fire. An occupant of the residence returned home from a trip to find a fire on his back deck. Twelve Units from the Wichita Fire Department responded to the call for a house fire. WFD crews could see a column of smoke as they responded to the call and located heavy fire at the rear of the home when they arrived on the scene. The fire spread into the living space and the attic of the dwelling before fire crews were able to control the flames. One citizen received minor injuries from falling while trying to extinguish the fire before fire crews arrived. The patient was treated on the scene and transported by SCEMS.
The Fire Investigation Unit determined the fire originated on the back deck and spread into the home. The exact cause of the fire could not be determined due to the extensive damage. Fire damage was estimated at $50,000 to the structure and $20,000 loss to the contents.
