Work from Kellogg to Pawnee, traffic restrictions June to November.
119th Street West from Kellogg to Pawnee will be reconstructed this summer and fall. A public information meeting about the project is scheduled at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday at Auburn Hill golf course club house, 443 South 135th Street West.
The project will provide two through lanes in each direction on 119th Street West, with a center turn lane. Drainage improvements will be included, along with a 10-foot-wide, multi-purpose path on the east side of 119th, a six-foot sidewalk on the west side and landscaping on both sides.
The project is slated to begin June 1, with a projected completion date for the paving work by Nov. 15. The work will require closure of 119th Street to through traffic, followed by one-way northbound traffic only, and then one lane in each direction, as the work progresses. The City will not restrict traffic on 119th street south of Kellogg until Sedgwick County opens 135th St West, south of Kellogg. Construction will be performed in three phases:
- Phase 1 will consist of constructing a new water line and a reinforced concrete box drainage structure. During this phase, only local traffic will be permitted between Kellogg and Pawnee. This closure is estimated to occur in mid- to late June. Following completion of the box drainage structure, 119th Street will reopen to one lane of northbound traffic only.
- Phase 2 will consist of reconstructing the west half of 119th Street from Kellogg to Pawnee. Traffic will continue to be limited to one lane northbound only, through most of the summer.
- Phase 3 will be reconstruction of the east half of 119th Street from Kellogg to Pawnee. By late summer, one lane of traffic in each direction (northbound and southbound) will be open.
