Dancers, sideshow and Vaudeville acts returning to Cowtown

Back by popular demand, Dr. Dillinger’s Freaks and Floozies performance troupe is bringing “An Evening of Burlesque” back to Old Cowtown Museum for two performances June 10-11. Both shows begin at 8 p.m. in Cowtown’s Empire House Theatre. Tickets are $12 in advance through and $15 at the door. A limited number of $18 VIP tickets with special seating, a Dr. Dillinger Fun Pack and other amenities may be purchased by calling (316) 350-3323. The event is geared toward adult audiences. Cowtown is located at 1865 W. Museum Blvd.

The show’s lineup includes burlesque dancer Eartha Delights (founder of the Kansas City Burlesque Symposium), the Wichita Burlesque Troupe, The Ukuladies all-girl ukulele band, comedy and sideshow acts and Vaudeville performances. There will be a cash bar.

Cowtown’s first burlesque show was held in March to the delight of two sell-out crowds. Its popularity is due in large part to Wichita’s close connection to this unique style of theater. It is believed that Gypsy Rose Lee (for whom the stage musical and film ‘Gypsy’ was based) started her burlesque career in Wichita. Also, theatrical burlesque became popular around the beginning of the Victorian era, making it a perfect fit for Cowtown.
