Bicyclists traveling from Tlalnepantla, Mexico to Wichita -to support the Sister Cities program - arrived in Oklahoma early this morning. They remain on schedule to arrive at City Hall between 6 and 7 p.m. on Thursday.
The cyclists will cover 13 days and 1,633 miles as part of the “6th Annual Trek of the Brotherhood Tlalnepantla-Wichita 2011."
Before arriving at City Hall, the cyclists are scheduled to arrive Thursday afternoon in Mulvane where municipal officials will host. Sedgwick County Sheriff deputies are scheduled to provide an escort from K-15 to Washington, Central and City Hall.
At City Hall, the cyclists will be welcomed by Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer, Wichita City Council members and other dignitaries.
The Tlalnepantla cyclists, who began their tour at 9 a.m. on Wednesday, May 25, will remain in Wichita through Tuesday, June 7. Their trip coincides with the annual, nine-day Wichita River Festival, a multi-event festival centered downtown near the Arkansas River.

The organization aims to build global cooperation at the municipal level, promote cultural understanding and stimulate economic development. The program originated in 1956 when President Dwight D. Eisenhower proposed a people-to-people, citizen diplomacy initiative.
