The graduation for the 2011 Spring Recruit Class of the Wichita Police Department is scheduled for 10 a.m. Friday at Central Community Church, at 6100 W. Maple.
The graduating class includes 21 Wichita Police Officers and five Sedgwick County Sheriff Deputies. District Court Judge Fleetwood will swear in the new law enforcement officers, and there will be remarks from Wichita Police Chief Norman Williams, Sedgwick County Sheriff Robert Hinshaw, the graduating class president, Officer David Howard.
After having successfully completed 23 weeks of basic law enforcement academy training, the officers will graduate and begin 12 weeks of field training that pairs each new officer with a veteran officer. That pairing assists new officers in applying their classroom training to practical situations in the field.
A reception for the graduates, family members, and honored guests will immediately follow the graduation ceremony at the church.
