Air show to include world-class performers and ‘fun’ activities

The City of Wichita is pleased to present the 2011 Wichita Flight Festival Aug. 20-21 at Colonel James Jabara Airport, 3512 N. Webb Road. The theme for the two-day festival is “Fun of Flight.” It will feature air acts from around the nation, a kid’s zone, food concourse, radio-controlled demonstrations and a Fly Market vendor and education area. A Twilight Air Show and Concert will be held Saturday night. All daytime activities are free; admission to the Twilight Air Show and Concert is $5. Advance tickets are available at WichitaTIX.com or may be purchased at the gate.

“This is the ninth year that the City of Wichita has presented the Wichita Flight Festival and it continues to grow,” Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer said. “It honors our community’s rich aviation heritage and is a chance for people of all ages and backgrounds to experience aviation in new, unique and fun ways.”

The 10 air show acts feature world-class performers who come from as far away as Toronto and Ontario, Canada. Two of the performers are current Guinness Book of World Record holders. Wingwalker Ashley Battles holds the world record for the longest duration wing walk at four hours; Kent Shockley’s Shockwave jet truck earned the world’s fastest full-size truck title after reaching a speed of 376 mph.

Saturday night’s concert will feature a Doors tribute band from Venice Beach, CA. The group “Peace Frog” is known for its spot-on accuracy in re-creating vintage Doors concerts. The first 500 people through the gate that evening will receive a free gift from Coleman.
