City Storm Damage Response

Contact: City Communications |

Wichita Public Works & Utilities and Wichita Park & Recreation crews continue to work to address damage caused by Wednesday night’s thunderstorm. There have been numerous reports of broken limbs and storm debris in the roads. City Crews plan to have the storm debris removed from most streets today. However power lines which are down in some areas may prevent them from working until the lines can be removed. Street Maintenance crews are also grading dirt streets and fixing potholes washed out by heavy rain.

Residents are responsible for clearing debris from private property. Crews will not be able to remove limbs and debris which fell on private properties.

City crews continue to work to repair traffic signals and signs across the City which were turned out of alignment by high winds. Residents are asked to treat non-operating traffic signals as a four-way stop.

Overnight, Wichita Public Works & Utilities crews placed barricades at several areas affected by flooded streets and downed power lines. They also started the process of clearing the streets and responding to traffic signal outages.

Wichita Park and Recreation crews worked more than 250 calls relating to tree damage and broken limbs since 10 pm last night.

The Wichita Fire Department responded to more than 370 calls related to the storm between 10pm - 1 am.
