A ribbon-cutting highlighting the completed first phase of a bicycle parking plan in Delano is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Thursday at the Delano Clock Tower (corner of Douglas and Sycamore).
The completed first phase includes bicycle racks installed along Douglas Avenue. A bike ride and block party will follow the ribbon cutting ceremony. The bike racks are part of the Delano-West Douglas Avenue Bicycle Parking Plan, which recommends the installation of 120 on-street bike racks, 15 off-street bike racks at Lawrence-Dumont Stadium, and bicycle parking at the proposed new Central Branch Library.
Scheduled speakers include Mayor Carl Brewer, Council Member Michael O’Donnell and Nancy Lawrence, with Historic Delano.
The bicycle racks were funded by the U.S. Department of Energy using American Recovery and Reinvestment Act funds.
Street closures for the block party include Douglas Avenue, Millwood Street to Glenn Street from 6:30-8:00 p.m. For more information, please contact Megan Buckmaster, Neighborhood Services at 268-4351.
