Improvements to Close North Tyler Road

8/22/2011
Contact: Gail Williams, Department of Public Works & Utilities |

No through traffic between 21st and 29th will speed project completion.

A public information meeting regarding upcoming improvements along Tyler Road is scheduled for 6 p.m. on Tuesday at Resort Lifestyle Community, 2300 N. Tyler Road.

Tyler Road between 21st and 29th Streets will be closed to through traffic in early September until mid-November for reconstruction of the street. Work is slated to begin next week, with paving work to be completed in November. Tyler will not be closed until a temporary traffic signal is in place at 21st and Keith, to facilitate access for neighborhoods north of 21st Street and west of Tyler.

The project will add a center left turn lane with drainage improvements and landscaped medians. A six-foot sidewalk will also be added on the east side of Tyler, with right-of-way landscaping.

City staff met with homeowners’ associations, District Advisory Board members, businesses and property owners on Tyler during the planning stages for the project. The majority of residents and businesses favored closing Tyler in order to expedite the project, rather than maintaining traffic, which would require several additional months and possible winter-weather delays.

Two-way access will be provided from 21st Street to Reflection Ridge Retirement Community, and from north of Meadow Knoll to 29th Street. No access will be available from Tyler Road to Sterling, North Ridge, Central Park, Meadow Knoll or Meadow Park Streets.
