The City of Wichita is creating a new Bicycle Master Plan. As a first step, the City is asking Wichita residents to help identify ways to make bicycling safer, easier, and more convenient. Today, the City launched an online survey that asks residents why they do and do not bike; and an interactive map that asks them to identify favorite routes and locations that might be improved. The links to the survey, interactive map, and project website are listed below and are also available on the City’s website www.wichita.gov.

Residents who want to provide input and learn more about this initiative can also attend the Wichita Bicycle Master Plan Open House scheduled from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 4 at City Hall, 455 N. Main.
The Wichita Bicycle Master Plan, funded by American Recovery and Reinvestment Act, will identify and prioritize strategies to provide new and enhanced bicycle facilities and increase the number and frequency of people bicycling in Wichita. The plan will provide a framework and strategies for improving the connectivity, safety, comfort, and convenience of the bicycle network. The bicycle plan is being undertaken in part because Wichitans rated their satisfaction with the ease of bicycle travel “much below” the satisfaction of residents in comparable cities (ranking 21 of 29 cities) as part of the 2010 National Citizen Survey.
