Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer has proclaimed Saturday as “Wichita Play Day” to celebrate the importance of family fun and taking time to play. The third annual Wichita Play Day is scheduled from 1 to 4 p.m. at O.J. Watson Park, 3022 S. McLean Boulevard. The free event includes many fun activities including races, face-painting, parachute games, horseshoes, baseball throw, sidewalk chalk, train rides, canoe and kayak rides. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.
“We would like to invite families to come play with Wichita Park & Recreation this Saturday,” Wichita City Council Member Janet Miller said. “This is a great opportunity to encourage and remind kids to get moving and spend time outdoors.”
The amount of time a child spends outside is half what it was 20 years ago, according to a study from American Academy of Pediatrics.
Wichita was also recently designated as a national Playful City USA community for the third straight year.
