League of Kansas Municipalities, National League of Cities

Wichita’s success as a major exporter will be highlighted in presentations by Mayor Carl Brewer and the Kansas World Trade Center (KWTC) at upcoming state and national municipal conferences.

Mayor Brewer and KWTC President Karyn Page will lead a presentation before the League of Kansas Municipalities (LKM) during the organization’s annual conference in Wichita Oct. 8-10. The presentation will take place at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 10, at the Hyatt Regency.

A similar presentation is also scheduled at the annual National League of Cities (NCL) Congress of Cities conference Nov. 9-12 in Phoenix, AZ. The Wichita presentation will be part of a workshop on “Connecting Local Businesses to International Markets” at 11 a.m. (MST) on Nov. 11.

“Cities and towns can play an important role in reaching the goal of doubling exports in Kansas and across the country,” Mayor Brewer said. “Wichita’s experience can serve as a template for other communities and inspire more businesses to look outside our borders for new customers.”

Export growth is a fundamental component in bringing new capital into local, state and national economies, according to KWTC President Page.

“Every export results in new dollars entering our domestic economy,  which is an essential ingredient for economic growth,’ she stated. “If we are going to expand our export activity, we have to enlist more businesses and industry who traditionally haven’t looked at international trade as a part of their business plan.”

The presentations will illustrate Wichita’s successful strategies for export growth, and also will explain the tools and processes available through the Kansas World Trade Center that can help local communities achieve similar success.

The Kansas World Trade Center is a private non-profit organization dedicated to building international growth and commerce for Kansas companies. Since 1994, KWTC’s education, communication and research services have helped its customers generate more than $167 million in international sales, plus projected sales of over $13 billion. With contacts in over 300 World Trade Centers worldwide, KWTC has the resources to help companies make an impact on the global market.
