Delta Air Lines is cutting its nonstop service from Wichita to Memphis, effective Jan. 4.
Delta currently offers one daily nonstop flight between the two cities. Memphis is ranked Wichita’s 43rd top destination and is primarily a connecting hub for eastern destinations. Delta passengers will now connect to Memphis and eastern cities through Atlanta.
Beginning Jan. 4, Delta mainline will enter the Wichita-Atlanta market with a 126-seat Airbus 319. In addition to the Airbus flight, flights will also be provided by Delta connection carriers operating one 76-seat CR9 and three 65-seat CR7s, for five daily flights. All aircraft have a first-class cabin.
In March, Delta announced it would cut 25% of its flights nationwide and internationally by year’s end. The reduction in capacity is due primarily to high fuel prices, the company said. The Wichita-Memphis service is operated with a 50-seat regional jet, which is Delta’s least fuel efficient aircraft, according to Delta.
