WFD Smoke Alarm Campaign Begins Today

Contact: Bradley F. Crisp, Fire Marshal |

Wichita Fire Department (WFD) officials today will begin installing smoke alarms or replacing batteries in a limited number of homes that do not have a working smoke alarm. From today through Oct. 28, WFD officials will provide more than 300 smoke alarms and 500 batteries to home owners who do not currently have one.

The fire department is partnering with Safe Kids Coalition, Scholfield Automobile Dealerships and Interstate Battery to give away and install home smoke alarms and test existing smoke alarms upon request. The new smoke alarm initiative is in response to increasing fire fatalities.

Residents should call the WFD (268-4441) from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Mondays through Fridays during the campaign to schedule an appointment.
