The Little Arkansas River will be lowered in early November, to permit bridge inspections at Central, Murdock, Bitting, 13th, 18th, 21st, 25th, 29th, and 37th streets.
It will take one day for the river level to be lowered, two to three days for the inspections, and then one to two days for the river level to return to the previous level. Plans require the Central Avenue dam to be lowered on Monday and for bridge inspections to be performed by a consulting firm on Tuesday and Wednesday.
The City of Wichita coordinated the process with the Wichita State University rowing program to accommodate its training and competition schedule. WSU’s rowing season will conclude on Sunday, with the Frostbite Regatta on the Little Arkansas River in the Riverside area.
