The Wichita Police Department will participate in Operation Impact from 7 a.m. Wednesday until 12 a.m. Thursday along Rock Road throughout Sedgwick County.
Operation Impact is a multi-agency initiative to enforce traffic safety. The goal is to encourage motorists to focus on traffic safety while traveling in Sedgwick County and surrounding areas. Motorists are reminded to watch their speed, turns and not text while driving. Participating law enforcement agencies include Wichita, Derby, Mulvane, Sedgwick County Sheriff’s Department and the Kansas Highway Patrol.
In addition to Operation Impact, the Wichita Police Department will be participating in several grant funded traffic enforcement initiatives over the holiday period. From yesterday through Sunday, police will utilize grant funding from the Kansas Department of Transportation to conduct DUI saturation patrols around Wichita. Patrol East and Patrol West will also be conducting saturation patrols throughout the holiday weekend.
“The heaviest enforcement will be along the Kellogg corridor as well as Rock Road,” Lt. Joe Schroeder said. He also indicated seat belt safety restraints and DUI patrols are the priorities for law enforcement officers this weekend.
