Income and residential status determine eligibility
The City of Wichita is again offering free paint for people who meet income guidelines and whose property is in targeted areas. Qualified property owners are eligible for up to $200 in paint. Seniors as well as people with certain disabilities may also qualify for a grant to cover costs for having the paint applied, on or after July 1, 2012.
The target area is bounded by I-235, Pawnee, 25th Street North and Hillside. It also includes all Local Investment Areas such as the Hilltop and Planeview neighborhoods. The income limit for a single person household is $36,400; the 4-person household limit is $52,000.
“This program makes such a big difference in the appearance of the home as well as the entire block”, Mary K. Vaughn, Director of the Housing and Community Services Department, said. “We want help from neighborhood association to spread the word to members and consider organizing paint parties.”
The 2012 Paint Program begins today and will end Sept. 14. It is funded with Community Development Block Grant funds from the U.S. Dept. of Housing and Urban Development.
