Sister Cities Bicyclists Arrive Today

Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer is scheduled to welcome Sister Cities’ bicyclists from Tlalnepantla, Mexico at 3 p.m. today at the Law Enforcement Memorial at City Hall. The bicyclists have travelled 1,633 miles over 13 days to raise awareness about the Sister Cities program.

Sister Cities International is a nonprofit citizen diplomacy network that creates and strengthens partnerships between the United States and international communities. More than 2,000 cities, states and counties are partnered in 136 countries around the world. The organization aims to build global cooperation at the municipal level, promote cultural understanding and stimulate economic development. The program originated in 1956 when President Dwight D. Eisenhower proposed a people-to-people, citizen diplomacy initiative.
