Martz Memorial Tourney Tees Off Friday

Contact: Don Harrison, Manager of Wichita Public Golf Courses |

The Bob Martz Memorial Golf Tournament is scheduled for noon Friday at Auburn Hills Public Golf Course, 443 S. 135th St. West. Participants can register for the four-person scramble event on site at 11 a.m. on Friday or by calling 268-4361. Players will tee off at noon.

Individual tournament entry fees are $75 a person. Golf carts, lunch and gift bags will be provided, along with prizes for three flights of competition. Participants also receive a free round of golf at any of the five Wichita Public Golf Courses. A pizza party and awards presentation follows the tournament.

The tournament commemorates the public service of late Councilmember Bob Martz, who represented District V, home to Auburn Hills. Martz served on the Council from 1999 to 2007. During his tenure, he played a key role in the planning and creation of Auburn Hills, which Golf Week Magazine has recognized as one of the top five public courses in Kansas.

Proceeds from the tournament fund the Bob Martz Scholarship Fund and the Hook-A-Kid-On-Golf program, which is designed to introduce the game to children who are first-time golfers. Also, hole sponsorships in support of the Wichita Junior Golf Foundation scholarship are available at $250. Sponsors will be identified in tee-box signs and recognized in marketing on Cox Cable Channel 7. For more information, please contact Public Golf Course Manager Don Harrison at 268-4653 or Attached is a tournament flyer with registration information.
