The Central Library will remain partially closed through Monday due to a bedbug discovery.
On Friday and Saturday, the Central Library will offer a reduced level of service during its regular hours (10 a.m.-5:30 p.m.). The Central Library will be closed on Sunday, when it is usually open from 1-5 p.m.
Late on Wednesday, a customer reported the sighting of a pest in a chair on the first floor at the Central Library. Staff immediately removed the chair from the public area.
On Thursday, the building was largely closed to the public while the City of Wichita staff assessed the situation. Shortly before the scheduled opening of the facility, a pest-control employee identified bedbugs on the removed chair.
Regarding the reduced service schedule, Central Library customers may return materials, place holds and make payments from the lobby window. Telephone reference and all virtual services from the Library's web site are also available. Programs and meetings through next week are being moved to branch locations.
Some Central Library staffers will be temporarily reassigned to branches to meet increased service needs.
“City of Wichita staff is working to do what is necessary so that the Central Library can reopen for full service as quickly as possible,” Cynthia Berner Harris, Director of Libraries, said.
