Gunslingers, historical characters bring Wild West to life at Cowtown

Trigger-happy cowboys are coming to Old Cowtown Museum this Saturday, Sept. 1 for the always exciting “Age of the Gunfighter” event. There will be gunfights, fast draw contests and historical character re-enactments taking place every half hour from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. outside of Cowtown’s Empire Hall. Admission is $7.75 for adults and $6 for youth. Children under 4 and museum members get in free. Cowtown is located at 1865 W. Museum Blvd.

“Age of the Gunfighter” is a Reenactment Guild of America-sanctioned national competition. It is expected to draw the best of the best gun-fighting teams from Kansas, Texas, Missouri and Colorado. Adding to the Old West atmosphere will be re-enactors who are so talented, they’ll make you believe you’re actually talking to larger-than-life figures such as President Ulysses S. Grant or Buffalo Bill Cody.

All contests will be judged on authenticity and accuracy by a team of experts selected by the Reenactment Guild.

Other entertainment throughout the day includes:

  • “Doc MacDougal’s Miraculous Melodramas”;
  • ”Roscoe and Rose Red’s Magic Show”;
  • Carriage rides;
  • Performances by the Entre Nous Victorian Dancers;
  • Snacks, hot dogs and Sarsaparilla in the Saloon;
  • Old-time family photos and more.
