Wichita City Council appointees, known as the Commission of Electors, are seeking additional public comment on its consensus map, Map E, which revises City Council district boundaries.
Map E: The public is invited to provide feedback at the Commission’s next meeting scheduled for 2 p.m., Tuesday, Sept. 18, in the first floor Council Board Room of City Hall, 455 N Main.
Public comments may also be emailed to City/County Planning Director John Schlegel at JSchlegel@wichita.gov. They should be submitted by 5 p.m. on September 17 in order to ensure they are received by the Commission for its Sept. 18 meeting.
Officials are reviewing City Council district boundaries, as required every 10 years under Charter Ordinance 173. The review allows district populations to be adjusted under constitutional, equal-representation mandates following each 10-year census.
The process for reviewing district boundaries began in July and must end before Dec. 31. Redistricting requires new districts to be adjusted so that the population of each district is within five percent of the average district size stated in the most recent census data.
During the district boundary review process, related information will be available at wichita.gov; Cox Cable Channel 7 or City7; and City Facebook and Twitter sites.
