Last Flight of 2012

The last Kansas Honor Flight for the year will depart at 6:30 a.m on Wednesday, Oct. 17 on AirTran flight #316, leaving from Wichita Mid-Continent Airport. There will be 16 veterans and 16 guardians on this flight. They will travel to Washington, DC. to visit the War Memorials erected to honor their service and sacrifices to the country. During the three-day trip they will visit the WWII Memorial, Korean Memorial, and Vietnam Memorial Wall. In addition, the veterans plan to see museums, the Iwo Jima Memorial, Arlington National Cemetery, the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier, and a visit to Ft. McHenry. The return flight arrives at 10:18 a.m on Friday, Oct. 19th, on AirTran flight #56. The public is encouraged to come to the Airport to thank these heroes with a rousing welcome home.

These trips are made possible through the cooperation and coordination of the airlines, TSA, Ampco Parking, HMS Host, and Wichita Airport Authority staff. “It is with great pride that the Airport can play a part in honoring these veterans,” said Airport Director Victor White.

The trip has been organized by Kansas Honor Flight, Inc. The mission of Honor Flight is to transport America's veterans to Washington, D.C. to visit the memorials at no cost to them with current priority to WWII Veterans. Subsequent to the World War II Veterans, efforts then focus on Korean War Veterans followed by Vietnam War Veterans, honoring them both in a similar manner. Guardians, who pay their own travel expenses, accompany each veteran to ensure safe travel. Contributions from the public provide the necessary funding for this memorable trip.
