Ribbon-cutting for 21st and Maize Improvements

Contact: Communications Team |

City of Wichita officials have scheduled a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10:30 a.m. on Thursday, Oct. 18 at 21st and Maize Road to celebrate two road improvements in the area.

The $2.5 million project at the intersection of 21st and Maize Road – the fifth busiest in Wichita, with 48,000 daily motorists - was rebuilt to add dual left-turn lanes at both Maize and 21st, with new traffic signals and sidewalks. Raised medians were constructed to make significant improvements to access management, safety and efficiency of the intersection.

“This is a tremendous improvement for motorists in northwest Wichita as well as the adjacent retailers and business owners,” said Longwell, who is scheduled to speak at the event. “It is nice to see activity return to the area now that the new intersection allows easy flow in and out of people’s favorite shops in time for the holiday shopping season.”

Project construction began in March. The contract was completed a month ahead of schedule due to contractor Kansas Paving’s efforts, favorable weather and good planning/design in advance of construction, City Public Works & Utilities officials said.
