WPD Response to March 10 Shooting

Contact: Lt. Doug Nolte |

Wichita Police will review shooting per departmental policy

Today, District Attorney Nola Foulston released her office’s finding from the March 10, 2012 shooting of Marquez Smart. Based on the findings, two Wichita Police Department Officers have been cleared of any criminal conduct.

“The next phase involves an administrative investigation which will begin today, “said Chief Norman Williams. He stated that the practice of every police involved shooting is to conduct an administrative investigation. “It is very important to the Wichita Police Department that our officers follow not only the law, but our own policies.”

Members of the WPD Professional Standards Bureau will review the incident and the actions of all officers involved to make sure there were no violations of policy and regulations. The Department will wait to comment further until the administrative investigation is complete.
