The District IV Advisory Board will conduct interviews for the interim District IV City Council seat during a special meeting at 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 2 at the Lionel Alford Branch Library, 3447 S Meridian.
The District IV seat in southwest Wichita will open on Jan. 1 after District IV Council member Michael O’Donnell II resigns on Dec. 31; O’Donnell was elected to the Kansas State Senate in November.
The District IV DAB can submit up to five names for City Council members to consider at the Jan. 8 City Council meeting. A majority council vote will determine who will serve as the interim District IV Council member. The seat will be permanently filled in the April 9 general election.
Candidates for the temporary term of office are required to submit a petition containing no fewer than 100 signatures of qualified electors who reside in the current Council District IV. The deadline to submit a petition is today, Dec. 18.
