Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer has proclaimed “Black and Gold Week” to encourage community support for the Wichita State University men’s basketball team in its game against Southern Mississippi University on Saturday at Intrust Bank Arena.
Wichita and Sedgwick County residents are being encouraged to wear the Shockers’ black and gold team colors every day through Saturday. Intrust Bank Arena is being called the “HOUSE OF SHOCK” and, on Friday, a street near the arena will be temporarily renamed “Shocker Way.”
“It’s a great time to be a Shocker,” Brewer said. “Please wear Shocker or black and gold apparel to support our local team. Wichita State has made a commitment to showcasing Shocker basketball in downtown Wichita and their alumni and fans have supported this effort. On Saturday, let’s all be Shocker fans and declare the city of Wichita and Sedgwick County the Shocker Roundhouse.”
