Contact: Gary Janzen, City Engineer |

The City will begin work in February to reconstruct the Broadway Bridge in south Wichita and Central Avenue between 119th and 135th Streets. Public meetings will be held to provide information about construction timelines and traffic impact.

Broadway Bridge
The bridge at Broadway and 34th Street South will be reconstructed. Construction will begin in February, with a tentative completion date of August 2014. Broadway will be affected from just north of Patterson Street to the 3800 block of South Broadway, with traffic limited to one lane in each direction. Reconstruction of 37th Street and Topeka Street, between 37th and 35th Streets, will also occur with access provided to local traffic. A public information meeting will be held Jan. 22 at 5:30 p.m. at the Wichita Water Center (101 E. Pawnee) to provide information on the project.

Central Avenue (119th – 135th West)
Construction will begin in February on realigning Central Avenue, including two new bridges, storm drainage, sidewalks, and landscaping between 119th and 135th Streets West. The tentative completion date is May 2014. Central Avenue will be limited to one lane of eastbound traffic in the affected area, while 135th Street will be closed to traffic north of Central Avenue for approximately eight months. Access to neighborhoods will be maintained throughout construction. The public can receive information about this project at a meeting on Jan. 23 at 5:30 p.m. The meeting will be located at Fire Station #21 (2110 N. 135th Street West).
