CityArts giving youth creative ways to spend time off school
CityArts’ Spring Break Art Camps are the perfect solution for parents looking for positive and engaging activities for their children over spring break. There are 10 camps for youth ages 6-15 to choose from; parents have the option of enrolling their children in both morning and afternoon sessions to create all-day art experiences. Children staying all day must bring their own sack lunches.The “Paint Like the Masters” and “Sewing is Everyone’s World” camps have special guest instructors.Registration for each morning or afternoon session is $25 per child. So You Think You Can Draw?
Monday, March 18, 9 a.m.-noon
This drawing-based camp is ideal for any level artist. Beginners will learn the basics of drawing; more advanced draftsmen will elaborate on what they have already learned.
Paint Like the Masters
Monday, March 18, 1-4 p.m.
Students will learn fresh painting techniques infused with a healthy dose of art history. Explore different types of paint and how to use them properly. These masterpieces will be something to hang on the wall at home!
Wichita native Mark D. Pendergrass is a guest instructor for this camp. He has been a professional artist for over 37 years. He is co-creator of the popular “Music Machine” and “Bullfrogs and Butterflies” albums of the 1980s. Pendergrass has designed more than 20 album covers since 1975. He has illustrated numerous books, designed logos and produced works for just about every field of art. An accomplished songwriter, Mark has written numerous songs for various recording artists and has earned two Gold and Platinum albums, four Dove Awards and five Grammy Nominations.

Build It From the Ground Up
Tuesday, March 19, 1-4 p.m.
Campers will spend some time focusing on the amazing feats architects have achieved when building cathedrals, museums, castles and more. After that, they will apply what they have learned to build something of their very own.
What is Plarn?
Wednesday, March 20, 9 a.m.-noon
Focusing on the ancient art form of weaving, we will create our own fiber art! Once we’ve learned the basics, we will add new age elements to our projects. Take home a wearable art piece and a rug.
Sewing is Everyone’s World
Wednesday, March 20, 1-4 p.m.
Make something you’re proud of in this art camp. We will work both on and off of sewing machines to create something of your choice!
2013 Miss Black Kansas USA Natasha Houston will share her fashion sense with students as a guest instructor for this camp. A Wichita native, her goal is to encourage young people everywhere to participate in the arts as a way to discover their natural talents and build self-esteem. Houston models, sings, acts and speaks publicly. She has performed with such artists as country singer Trace Adkins and had the opportunity to meet with Dr. Maya Angelou in 2004. She will represent Kansas in the Miss Black USA pageant in August in Washington, D.C.

Mosaics that are more than 2,000 years old have been found in Greece! We’d like to share this ancient experience with you by using our extensive supply of glass to create a story.
Bead-Making: From Melted Glass to Magazines

Make your own beads out of glass in this awesome hands-on camp. With supervision, students will learn to use CityArts’ hot-glass-melting equipment and take home something they can wear proudly!
