Wichita Firefighters will be recognized by ADT with the ADT Life Saver award at 11 a.m. on Thursday, May 16. The Wichita Fire Department (WFD) will be awarded a $5,000 grant from ADT for saving Jerry Malone and her home after it caught on fire earlier this year. The ADT dispatcher involved in alerting the Fire Department will travel from Texas to attend the ceremony and meet Malone. The award will be presented at Malone’s home which is located at 270 S. Pershing Street.
According to the Centers for Disease Control, someone dies during a house fire every three hours in the United States. “Smoke alarms and monitored protection can help prevent these tragedies,” said Wichita Fire Chief Ronald D. Blackwell. “Wichita’s Bravest are grateful for this award and are glad we could help Ms. Malone during her time of need.”
