Celebrate Southwest Airlines' Sunday Arrival

The public is encouraged to attend a community celebration from 1:30 – 3:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 2 when Southwest Airlines begins service at Wichita Mid-Continent Airport. The event will be held in the mezzanine level of the main terminal and will include music, cake, refreshments and a drawing for two round-trip tickets to any Southwest Airlines destination. Wichita City Council members and community leaders are scheduled to attend.  During the celebration, there will be a special Make-A-Wish presentation by Ron Ricks, Executive Vice President with Southwest Airlines.
Regarded as the industry’s standard bearer for customer service and low fares, Southwest Airlines is the nation’s largest low-fare carrier, serving more customers domestically than any other airline. It operates more than 3,500 flights a day and serves 97 destinations in 41 states, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, and six near-international countries.
Southwest’s initial schedule includes two daily flights to Dallas Love Field, two daily flights to Chicago Midway, and one daily flight to Las Vegas.  The Dallas and Chicago routes are served with the 143-seat, Boeing 737-700 aircraft. The Las Vegas route is served with the 137-seat, B737-300 aircraft.  In 2012, Southwest's average passenger airfare was $147.17 one way. Southwest fares can only be found at  Southwest does not charge for the first two checked bags, nor does it charge change fees.
