City Budget Engages DABs, WIN and Social Media

​City of Wichita officials are inviting residents to attend a 2014-15 Proposed Budget meeting at 6 p.m. on Wednesday, June 26, in the first floor Board Room at City Hall, 455 N. Main. The meeting will include District Advisory Boards (DABs) and Wichita Independent Neighborhoods (WIN) officials.
City Council members and City department heads are scheduled to attend the meeting, which will air live on Cox Cable Channel 7. The budget presentation will feature a question-and-answer session and residents can email questions to, an email address that accepts budget questions every day.

Also, for the second straight year, City officials will host two social media town hall meetings regarding the 2014-15 Proposed Budget, a more than $500 million spending plan. The social media town hall meetings are scheduled from 1:30-3 p.m. on Thursday, June 27 and from 6-7:30 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17. Mayor Carl Brewer will attend Thursday’s town hall meeting, which will be held in Training Room II on the 9th floor of City Hall, 455 N. Main. Media are encouraged to attend.

Residents may also ask questions on the City of Wichita Facebook page or through Twitter at #ictbudget. Residents can also provide budget feedback by visiting Activate Wichita at, a virtual town hall where individuals can submit ideas on various community topics including the annual budget, air quality, water usage, and resources at the Wichita Public Library. The upcoming budget presentations support the City’s public engagement and transparency goals. They follow several City Council budget workshops, DAB neighborhood meetings and a WIN board meeting. After hearing from City Council members and residents, City Manager Robert Layton is scheduled to present a proposed budget during the July 16 City Council meeting. The City Council is scheduled to officially adopt the 2014-15 Proposed Budget at its Aug. 13 meeting.
