Wichita Mayor Carl Brewer and five members of the Wichita City Council will travel to Seattle, WA, next week for the National League of Cities (NLC) 2013 Congress of Cities & Exposition Nov. 13-16.
Because of the Veterans Day holiday and the NLC Congress, there will be no weekly meeting of the City Council Tuesday, Nov. 12. The Council will next meet Tuesday, Nov.19, at 9 a.m. as regularly scheduled.
Traveling to the NLC event with Mayor Brewer are Council Members Janet Miller, Lavonta Williams, James Clendenin, Jeff Longwell and Jeff Blubaugh. City Manager Robert Layton will accompany the Council Members.
Also scheduled to attend are two members of the Wichita Mayor’s Youth Council, who will attend Youth Delegate sessions that are part of the NLC Congress agenda. They include Audrey Webb, sophomore at Northeast Magnet High School, and Caroline Go, junior at Wichita Collegiate. Robert Hovenkamp, management fellow in the City Manager’s office, will supervise the Mayor’s Youth Council delegation.
The Congress of Cities and Exposition will be held at the Washington State Convention Center in Seattle. The event brings together local leaders from cities across the United States. Conference participants will find a range of learning and networking opportunities.
The 2013 Congress of Cities and Exposition will showcase the dynamic ways cities are driving change and finding successful solutions to the most pressing challenges in local government.
City Officials and staff from across the country will come together in Seattle for a unique opportunity to share best practices and learn strategies to promote local economic and financial health, improve the built and natural environment, and ensure quality of life for all city residents.
The National League of Cities is the nation’s oldest and largest organization devoted to strengthening and promoting cities as centers of opportunity, leadership and governance. NLC is a resource and advocate for 19,000 cities, towns and villages, representing more than 218 million Americans.
