- Main Gallery: “Wichita Women Artists Celebrating 65 Years”
The artists will be on hand to speak with
visitors and discuss their work during an Artists’ Reception from 6-8 p.m. on
Thursday, Jan. 8 that is free and open to the public.
With a long history in Wichita that dates back to 1950, the Wichita Women Artists
group continues to succeed in its mission of encouraging members’ creative
growth and acquainting a larger cross-section of the community with original
art created in the Wichita area. The group’s exhibit at CityArts highlights the
unique talents of its 40 members through a display of watercolors, oils,
gouache, pastels, pencil, mixed media, acrylics and sculptures. The CityArts exhibition is only one of a handful of Wichita Women Artists’ shows held annually around Wichita.
Boardroom and Balcony Galleries: "Rookie
Mistakes," Cowley College art students
The artists will be on hand to speak with
visitors and discuss their work during an Artists’ Reception from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday,
Jan. 22 that is free and open to the public.
All of the pieces in this collection were created during the 2014 fall semester by freshman and sophomore art students at Cowley College in Arkansas City, Kan.
Artwork ranges from ceramics to drawings and paintings. While these young
artists are considered “rookies,” many of them have been recognized on a
national level with high school congressional art show awards.
Visitors are invited to discuss the exhibits on Facebook and Twitter using #WichitaCityArts. For more information about CityArts’ January exhibits, call (316) 350-3245.
