Retired Wichita Police Lt. Kenneth Landwehr died at his home late Monday after a battle with kidney cancer. He was surrounded by his family.
Landwehr, 59, retired from the Wichita Police Department in May 2012 after a 35- year career with the department. Mayor Carl Brewer paid tribute to Landwehr, who helped solve the BTK serial-killer case in 2005 and many other Wichita homicides. He led the department’s homicide unit for 20 years after working in various areas of the department.
“The passing of Lt. Ken Landwehr is a true loss for his family, the Wichita Police Department and the City of Wichita,” Police Chief Norman Williams said. “He was a highly skilled investigator and a tireless advocate for victims and their loved ones. On behalf of the Wichita Police Department, I would like to express our deepest sympathy and support to his family and friends during this difficult time.”
