Storm Sewer Leak Temporarily Closes Lincoln

2/25/2014
Contact: Joseph T. Pajor, Deputy Director of Public Works & Utilities |
Lincoln Street near Washington is temporarily closed after a stormwater sewer leak washed out the soil underneath a Union Pacific rail line earlier today.  The soil provided important support under the tracks for both rail and vehicular traffic.

Lincoln is closed at Mead.  Only local traffic can access Lincoln between Santa Fe and Washington until further notice.  Staff from the City of Wichita and Union Pacific Railroad are assessing conditions to determine appropriate repairs.  That section of Lincoln is likely to remain closed for at least the next several days.

Drivers and pedestrians are encouraged to take alternate routes to avoid Lincoln, between Santa Fe and Washington, until the road is reopened.
