Operations Update
City of Wichita crews continue their efforts to clear Wichita streets and are plowing the primary snow routes. The onset of snow this afternoon caused the crews to shift to plowing operations. Salt-sand mix continues to be spread by the plow trucks to facilitate melting of the precipitation that remains on the roadways. Crews will continue to apply road treatments and plow overnight.
The National Weather Service is forecasting additional snow accumulation of about one inch. Temperatures are also becoming bitterly cold, with subzero temperatures expected overnight.
Road Conditions ForecastTraveling around Wichita remains hazardous. Roadways are slick in some areas. Drivers are urged to travel carefully tonight and during the commute tomorrow morning.
Overnight temperatures and wind chills will be very cold. This is likely to cause re-freezing of moisture that remains on the roadways. Driving conditions during the morning commute may be hazardous. Warming temperatures and daytime traffic will help improve driving conditions tomorrow afternoon, prior to the Monday evening commute.
Public Works & Utilities officials will provide further updates on road conditions and the snow response at the 10 a.m. media briefing on Monday morning at City Hall, 455 N. Main. Maps of the snow routes can be found on the City’s website, under the Public Works & Utilities page.
