Residents can help shape the golf course’s future
City of Wichita officials and the Board of Park Commissioners are asking for online public feedback on future renovations of L.W. Clapp Golf Course in southeast Wichita. Residents can provide feedback on Activate Wichita, www.activate-wichita.com now through August 10. All feedback will be compiled and presented to Wichita Golf Courses staff and the Board of Park Commissioners.
On Thursday, officials held a community engagement meeting at Boston Recreation Center, 6655 E. Zimmerly. Bryan Frye, Board of Park Commissioners President, presented:
• History of rounds played at the course;
• Ideas to revitalize the course;
• Ideas for sustainability;
• Funding options;
• And a current status of the course.
During the 2010 budget process, City officials proposed closing L.W. Clapp Golf Course in 2011. Wichita, District III and neighborhood residents voiced their opinions at public meetings held by the Board of Park Commissioners, resulting in the golf course remaining open. In May, a presentation was made to the District III Advisory Board and, in June, to the neighborhood association. Proposed renovations will provide an additional revenue stream, along with a more player-friendly golf course.
