Main Gallery: “Celebrating the Diversity of the Natural World from California to Kansas and Beyond,” photography by Brad Schelton
Andover resident Brad Schelton uses his photography to give viewers a renewed visual perception on life. His photography reveals how magical our world truly is, and also promotes an improved environment as well as animal welfare.
Main Hall Gallery: “She…,” new works by Amanda Pfister
Wichita artist Amanda Pfister uses a slip – a usually unseen female undergarment – as a stand in for the female model in this body of work. The slips communicate presence, yet they are empty shells embodying the struggles women still face in today's contemporary society. Viewers are left to decide what kind of woman the slip in each work represents.
Boardroom Gallery: “OZ,” mixed media works by Brian Swayze
Brian Swayze’s work brings familiar characters to life through realistic drawings on concrete-covered cement board. The Wichita artist’s works are inspired by characters that left an impression on him at some point in his life, through books, movies, TV or real life.
Balcony Gallery:“Narratives & Abstractions,” works by individuals from Envision’s Art Education Program
Envision is a local organization that provides support and programming to individuals with vision loss. By using their imaginations and creativity, the Envision artists were able to create works of art that share their stories and show their feelings and ideas in a variety of ways.
All exhibits will be on display from Aug.29-Sept. 28. Admission is free to CityArts’ exhibition galleries that are open 9 a.m.-9 p.m., Monday-Thursday; 9 a.m.-5 p.m., Friday; 9 a.m.-9 p.m., Final Friday; and 9 a.m.-4 p.m., Saturday. For more information call 316-350-3245
