City Crews Treating Streets for Winter Storm

Contact: Alan King, Department of Public Works & Utilities |
City of Wichita crews have been applying a salt solution known as brine to City streets since Wednesday in anticipation of a weekend winter storm.
Brine pre-treatment fights precipitation accumulation on roads.  Public Works & Utilities crews will continue to apply brine through this evening as current National Weather Service data predicts chances of snow between midnight and early morning Saturday.
Precipitation is forecasted through Sunday, according to the weather service.  City crews will continue to work through the weekend to respond to winter weather. Crews will apply a sand/salt mixture in an effort to prevent accumulation on City streets. City crews will begin plowing efforts, if there is significant snow accumulation.
The City has 50 snow plow trucks and has personnel on standby to operate the full complement of plows around the clock during the storm.  Crews will be activated depending on whether conditions.
The City will monitor the weather and the road conditions throughout the weekend and will provide updates as necessary. Please monitor and the City of Wichita Facebook and Twitter accounts for updates on the City’s winter storm response.
