City of Wichita officials on Friday said commercial truck traffic is being temporarily detoured from the southbound John Mack Bridge after an inspection revealed structural cracks in floor beams.
The structural issues reduce the load-bearing capacity of the bridge. The bridge, located near Pawnee and Broadway in south Wichita, was originally constructed in 1931.
The bridge will be limited to loads less than five, nine and fifteen tons for two-, three-, and four-axle commercial trucks, respectively.
City officials will be following up with additional inspections and analysis of the bridge over the next few days.
