The Wichita Police Department invites the public to attend a second community engagement meeting today to discuss findings and recommendations from the department’s organizational assessment. The meeting is scheduled from 6-7:30 p.m. at in the library of Urban Prep Academy, 2821 E. 24th Street.

Residents are encouraged to read the assessment at, where they can also find an Activate Wichita link to offer feedback on the report. Today’s meeting is sponsored by the Wichita Branch NAACP.
“This is a chance to ask questions, share concerns and help us work on improving community and police relations,” Interim Police Chief Nelson Mosley said.

The goals of the assessment were to 1) provide research for best practices, 2) engage internal and external stakeholders on strengths, concerns and a future direction for the department, 3) review policies, procedures and other aspects of the department, and 4) provide recommendations for hiring the next police chief. The assessment included input from 195 employees and those who attended 22 stakeholder meetings.
