The Wichita Police Department’s next community engagement meeting regarding findings and recommendations from an organizational assessment is scheduled for 6 p.m. on March 25 at Sunflower Community Action, 1751 N. Ash.
A meeting scheduled for Thursday, March 12, with the Wichita Crime Commission Board has been postponed.
Two previous meetings were held with partnering organizations, the Wichita NAACP and Wichita Independent Neighborhoods.
Residents are encouraged to attend the community engagement meetings and to read the WPD assessment at www.wichita.gov, where they can also find an Activate Wichita link to offer feedback on the report.
The goals of the assessment were to 1) provide research for best law enforcement practices, 2) engage internal and external stakeholders on strengths, concerns and a future direction for the department, 3) review policies, procedures and other aspects of the department, and 4) provide recommendations for hiring the next police chief. The assessment included input from 195 employees and those who attended 22 stakeholder meetings.
