Wichita Park & Recreation is adding another date to the schedule of Barry’s Recreation Station, a new mobile van carrying recreation equipment this summer to public parks and providing outdoor games and activities for families and friends.
The additional date - from 6:30-8:30 p.m. on Thursday at Naftzger Park, 601 E. Douglas - will have special activities not offered at the previous Barry Recreation Station events.
The free event will begin with a Karate demonstration at 6:40 p.m. followed by an interactive science show hosted by Beard and Bean. Karate students will interact with the crowd providing karate and self-defense training, using fun games. Jedi fighters will be present to help kids work on their light sabre skills. Other fun activities such as sidewalk chalk and bubbles will also be available.
The final summer Recreation Station will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 8 at Boston Park, 6655 E. Zimmerly.
Wichita Park & Recreation supports 127 parks, eight recreation centers, nine swimming pools, 52 athletic fields, five golf courses, six interactive fountains, numerous adult and youth-based activities and athletics programs and 407 acres of rights-of-way.
