Construction to install the 1st Street and 2nd Street bike lanes is scheduled to start the week of August 3, City of Wichita officials announced on Thursday during Mayor Jeff Longwell’s news briefing at City Hall, 455 N. Main.
The installation of the bike lanes will:
• Improve the safety of all street users;
• Smooth traffic flow by adding separate lanes for people bicycling;
• Provide a significant connection for bicycling to downtown, neighborhoods, employment centers, and other bikeways; and
• further implement the Downtown Master Plan and Wichita Bicycle Master Plan.
Construction is expected to last approximately three weeks. At least one traffic lane will remain open during construction.
Longwell encouraged residents to use caution as all roadway users become familiar with bike lanes and the new roadway configuration.
