Contact: City Communications |

National Baseball Congress Foundation officials have made a $25,000 payment on a $150,000 loan from the City of Wichita. NBC officials presented the check to Mayor Longwell, who praised the organization and annual summer tournament during his weekly news briefing on Thursday at City Hall.

“The NBC Tournament is a fixture and asset in our community,” Longwell said. “City government is thrilled to be a partner. The tournament is enjoying economic health, thanks to the hard work of NBC officials and our supporting community.”

The annual NBC World Series Tournament has a long and rich tradition in Wichita. The 2016 NBC World Series saw strong attendance and enjoyed a resurgence in popularity. Longwell noted that the tournament had more than a $2.6 million dollar impact on the local economy. The economic impact figure is based on the average number of days teams and fans stay in Wichita, plus the impact of revenue generated at the host venue, Lawrence-Dumont Stadium.

The National Baseball Congress Foundation works to grow the tournament as a premier summer showcase for the best amateur baseball players in the world. Over the last two years, the NBC Foundation has donated and raised more than $32,000 for youth baseball, non-profit organizations and local charities.
