Beginning Monday, westbound traffic on Kellogg between Maize Road and 119th Street will be reduced to one lane for temporary pavement work.
The project will extend the north frontage road west of 111th Street and include pavement improvements that will accommodate westbound to eastbound U-turns at 119th Street. Following pavement improvements, the signal at 111th Street will shut down for approximately six months as a trial period to monitor traffic patterns.
The primary focus of the project is to improve safety. More than 35,000 vehicles a day use Kellogg, compared to 1,200 a day at 111th Street. The intersection at 111th Street has a crash rate of 0.70 – nearly six times higher than the next Kellogg intersection at 119th Street, which has a crash rate of 0.12.
The temporary lane closure is anticipated to last approximately two weeks. Kellogg will resume two lanes westbound for the duration of the project. The estimated completion is June 2018.
