4/19/2018
Contact: Cynthia Berner, Wichita Public Library |

Wichita's Central Library will cease operation at the close of business on Sunday, May 6. Library officials announced the closing today as part of a series of transitions related to the relocation to the new Advanced Learning Library, 711 West 2nd Street.

Efforts have been made to minimize the impact of the closure for Central Library customers but there will be some disruption of services during the move.

  • Customers who designate the Central Library as their preferred pickup location for materials placed on hold will be asked to collect those items from the branch library of their choice.
  • Interlibrary loan services will be suspended for all library locations beginning Friday, April 27. Borrowing of materials from other libraries will resume when the Advanced Learning Library opens.
  • Book drop service at the Central Library will be suspended as of May 6. Materials may be returned to branch libraries or to the after hours materials return at the Advanced Learning Library beginning on May 7.

Plans related to the grand opening of the Advanced Learning Library will be announced in the near future.

More information about service transitions is available on the Library's virtual branch at http://www.wichitalibrary.org/Pages/Advanced-Learning-Library-Preparation.aspx.
